History
Founded in 1992, Kütahya Dumlupınar University rapidly completed its development and has today become one of the leading educational institutions in our country.
Undergraduate education in sports at our university began with the establishment of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences on April 14, 1994.
In accordance with the decision published in the Official Gazette dated April 14, 1999 and numbered 23666, the School of Physical Education and Sports at Kütahya Dumlupınar University was established on April 14, 1999. Consequently, the Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching, previously affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, was transferred to our school. The evening education program of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching, which had been opened in 1994 together with the regular education program, was discontinued as of 2001.
In addition to the Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching established in 1994, the Departments of Coaching Education and Sports Management were also added to our school in 2003.
The admission of 30 students each to the Departments of Coaching Education and Sports Management in the 2003–2004 academic year was reviewed and approved by the Executive Board of the Council of Higher Education on February 21, 2003, in accordance with Articles 7/d-2 and 2/h of Law No. 2547, amended by Law No. 2880.
Furthermore, evening education programs were launched in May 2006 for the Departments of Coaching Education and Sports Management, and it was decided to admit 30 students to each department in the 2006–2007 academic year. Our Department of Recreation was established on May 5, 2010, and from that date onward, students began to be admitted to both regular and evening education programs.
According to List I attached to Decision No. 2504, published in the Official Gazette dated May 9, 2020, regarding the establishment of the institutes and faculties listed in Annex I and the closure of the institutes and schools listed in Annex II, the Faculty of Sports Sciences was established within Kütahya Dumlupınar University.
